Gadara Hobby Farm

Gadara Farm offers bespoke therapeutic outdoor programs which truly meet your needs. Barefoot & Boots Programs run at Gadara Farm and offer you an individual experience. At Gadara you are treated as an individual and provided with what you actually need to reach your personal goals.

Gadara Farm is developed using old school and small scale farming with it’s roots embedded in methods from cottage farming, green care  and sustainability. Inclusive of animals, agriculture and nature, the self-sufficient farm utilises early knowledge such as planting by the lunar phases, harnessing the sun by using solar power and harvesting rainwater for crops and animals.

The Crops

Permaculture and small mixed crop rotations with companion planting incorporate low tech old school farming methods from earlier times. Nothing is wasted and animal manure becomes compost for vegetables and care is given to ensuring no chemical wormers or pesticides are used. Our crops are supplied fresh to the farm gate shop, preserved, bottled or dried.

The Animals

Animal health is managed predominantly through the use of diet, exercise, herbs and essential oils. Paddock rotations and cleaning is essential. Horses, donkeys, goats, chickens and dogs are residents of the farm with each species having a particular role e.g. guard donkeys for the chickens to keep foxes away. Initially an equine property some of the horses are older and here for wellbeing. Equiculture is central to domestic equine and asinine care and while our farm is too small for some of these approaches, we incorporate as much of this knowledge as we can for the sake of both environment and animal welfare. We take our husbandry in an alternative direction staying as close to nature as possible and we use only kind horsemanship training techniques which take time, patience and a positive philosophy.

The Farmers

We work long hours on the farm and despite it’s small size there is a lot of hands on work to be done every day of the year. In order to support others to learn how to apply our techniques we offer farming opportunities to people of different ages and abilities. Inclusive farming is part of the green care movement which promotes farm work as a great antidote to the mental ill health of seclusion and indoor screen based living and also can promote development in other keys areas of life. We hope to truly engage people and to spread the joy of living with animals and growing produce at home no matter how small your yard might be, so we welcome families to come and help out on the farm with as much support as each individual may need.
