About Sarah Munn
Founder, Owner, Managing Director
and Clinical Leader
Sarah Munn has been working in healthcare since 1989, initially working with adults and children with mental health, developmental and learning disabilities and this led to her training as an occupational therapist. Sarah worked in community paediatrics in London and then as a senior clinician OT in neurology and neurosurgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, before moving to Australia in 2004 and taking a position as the OT acute and outpatients service manager and paediatric/SCN OT at Peninsula Health.
Sarah began Barefoot Therapists as a sole practitioner in 2012, gradually growing the practice to what it is today. Sarah now leads and inspires the Barefoot team while continuing to offer child and family sessions, as well as sharing her expertise with external professionals in professional development, coaching and supervision. Sarah also teaches on the La Trobe University Animal Assisted Therapy Course and provides Equine Assisted Occupational Therapy education and mentoring.

Sarah gives up her time to consult to committees which work towards national competencies and standards of practice:

- Animal Therapies Ltd – Victoria Committee – This Not For Profit focuses on Advancing the understanding, acceptance and accessibility of animal-assisted services for those suffering trauma, disability and adversity.
The Lived Experience
Sarah had her first child who was born with Trisomy 21 (down syndrome) in 2009 and was later also found to have ASD, ADHD among other diagnoses. Her second child was also diagnosed with Anxiety, ASD, ODD and ADHD. Sarah established her private practice Barefoot Therapists in 2012 when the boys were little as a very part time sole practitioner.
This was developed into a Child and Family Team with a staff of 20 including OT and speech pathologists focusing on outdoor and community interventions. Rural programs, Animal and Equine Assisted Therapy are offered at their working hobby farm in Mornington Peninsula where Sarah lives with her family.
Sarah was raised training and riding horses and is passionate about including horsemanship and husbandry in her work with families. Her experiences in this field is extensive and she coaches other professionals and offers interviews for podcasts and social media in general.
